Pros
- Backed by Singapore Exchange, a long established, MAS regulated market operator
- Exchange traded FX futures history traces back to SIMEX in 1984
- OTC platform holds a real Recognised Market Operator licence from MAS
- No MAS enforcement action found against either business line
Cons
- The SGX FX name covers two different businesses, which can confuse readers
- No retail account, deposit, or spread exists on either side of SGX FX
- Only banks, funds, and other institutions can actually connect and trade
- Individual traders can reach these markets only through a licensed broker
SGX FX is not one single business. Singapore Exchange lists real FX futures, options, and non deliverable forward contracts on currencies like the Chinese yuan and Indian rupee through its derivatives arm, a market that traces back to the Singapore International Monetary Exchange, founded in 1984 and folded into SGX in 1999.
Separately, SGX owns an electronic OTC FX trading platform once called BidFX, bought in stages between 2019 and 2020 for a combined sum near $153 million. That platform now operates as SGX FX Markets Pte. Ltd. and holds a Recognised Market Operator licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, a status built for institutional venues, not individual retail clients.
Both sides of SGX FX serve banks, hedge funds, and asset managers, never individual retail traders. There is no deposit, spread, or leverage to quote, and we found no MAS enforcement action against either the exchange or the trading platform.
