Tastytrade, Inc. traded as Tastyworks when it launched to the public in 2017, built in Chicago by a team with roots in the thinkorswim platform. UK listed IG Group Holdings bought the firm in 2021 for close to $1 billion, and it now sits inside a parent company called tastylive.
The broker covers US stocks, ETFs, options, futures, and a short list of crypto coins, but not spot forex or CFDs. Stocks and ETFs trade free of commission, and options cost $1 per contract to open with nothing charged to close. There is no set minimum deposit, though margin trading needs $2,000 in equity. Accounts are introduced to Apex Clearing Corporation rather than cleared in house.
FINRA fined tastytrade $200,000 in May 2026 for under reporting dozens of written client complaints, and trade press reported a separate $850,000 FINRA fine in July 2026 over years of stock orders sent only to paying market makers with no price checks elsewhere. Client cash and securities carry SIPC protection up to $500,000.
