About CMC Invest Australia

CMC Invest is the share trading platform of CMC Markets in Australia. The company behind it, CMC Markets Stockbroking Limited, has held its ASIC license since 1997. In 2021, CMC renamed its stockbroking service to the current CMC Invest brand, as part of a push to attract younger investors.

The platform lets you buy real shares, ETFs, and managed funds on the ASX and on markets in the US, UK, Canada, and Japan. Your first ASX trade of the day is free if it is under $1,000. After that, ASX trades cost $11 or 0.10 percent, whichever is higher. There are no CFDs here. For leveraged trading, CMC points clients to its separate CMC Markets brand instead.

Client cash sits in a separate account with ANZ Bank, apart from CMC's own money, and ASX shares are held in your name through CHESS. The service is built for Australian residents, so most overseas traders cannot open an account. Reviewers rate it well for cost, though global trades work best with a balance near $1,000.
