About Charles Schwab

Charles Schwab Corporation was founded in 1971 in San Francisco and now lists its headquarters as Westlake, Texas. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SCHW and bought rival broker TD Ameritrade in 2020 in a deal worth about 26 billion dollars.

Forex is a small part of the business. Currency trading runs through a separate unit, Charles Schwab Futures and Forex LLC, once called TD Ameritrade Futures and Forex LLC before the merger. Most Schwab clients come for stocks, funds, and retirement accounts rather than currency trading.

Schwab holds real regulatory weight, but its record is not spotless. In June 2022, the SEC fined Schwab affiliated advisers 187 million dollars for misleading robo adviser clients about cash held in their accounts. In January 2025, the SEC fined Charles Schwab and Co. 10 million dollars for staff using unapproved apps like WhatsApp for business, breaking recordkeeping rules.
