About Point72

Point72 Asset Management was built by Steve Cohen after his previous firm, SAC Capital Advisors, pleaded guilty in 2013 to criminal insider trading charges and paid a record 1.8 billion dollars in fines and forfeiture. Cohen himself was barred from a supervisory role at any investment adviser until 2018 under a separate SEC settlement, though he faced no criminal charges.

Point72 formally took its name in 2014 as a family office managing only Cohen's own money. In 2018 it merged with Stamford Harbor Capital, registered with the SEC as an investment adviser under CRD number 283077, and began accepting outside investor capital again.

The firm runs fundamental equities, systematic, global macro, venture capital, and private credit strategies from its Stamford headquarters and offices worldwide. Point72's own site reported passing 50 billion dollars in assets under management in April 2026. It is not a retail forex broker.
