About Amber Group

Amber Group started in 2017 in Singapore and Hong Kong, founded by Michael Wu and a small team from Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg. Co founder Tiantian Kullander died suddenly in November 2022, at age 30. That same year, the FTX collapse forced Amber to cut headcount from about 1,100 to under 400, and former Shenzhen staff said pay was delayed.

Amber still closed a 300 million dollar funding round weeks after the FTX crisis, and it bought Hong Kong firm Celera Markets in 2022 to gain five SFC license types. In March 2025, its wealth arm merged into Nasdaq listed Amber International Holding Limited, ticker AMBR, now trading as Amber Premium.

Amber Premium mainly serves high net worth clients and institutions today. Its own 2026 results show about 1 billion dollars in client assets, averaging 1.2 million dollars per active client, after the firm trimmed smaller retail accounts ahead of new licensing. It also holds Bahamas registered entities and a UAE VARA license.
