Sharesies started in Wellington in 2017, built by six co founders including Brooke Roberts and Leighton Roberts. It lets everyday investors buy real shares and exchange traded funds on the NZX, the ASX, and US markets like the NYSE and Nasdaq, often with very small amounts of money.
The platform is regulated by New Zealand's Financial Markets Authority under license FSP423884. Client holdings sit inside Sharesies Nominee Limited, a separate legal entity, so investments stay ring fenced if the trading business ever ran into money trouble.
Sharesies expanded into Australia in 2021 and has since passed 1 million investors across both countries, with more than 12 billion NZ dollars under management. It raised 48 million Australian dollars in a Series C round led by Amplo, valuing the group at around 480 million Australian dollars.
