Lightyear is a stock and ETF investing app, not a forex or CFD broker. Martin Sokk and Mihkel Aamer, who both worked on Wise before this, founded it in 2020 in Tallinn and London. Lightyear U.K. Ltd is authorised by the FCA, and Lightyear Europe AS is authorised by Estonia's Finantsinspektsioon for EU clients.
The app covers over 6000 stocks and ETFs, UK and EU government bonds, and Vaults that pay interest through money market funds. There is a Stocks and Shares ISA and a Cash ISA for UK users. Lightyear removed crypto trading from the app in 2025 and still does not offer forex, CFDs, options, or futures.
Lightyear serves the UK plus about 24 other European countries, but not the United States. There is no minimum deposit, and ETF trades are commission free. It runs an official refer a friend program, and Trustpilot reviewers rate it well, though a few mention thin research tools and slow withdrawals.
