Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Held a genuine FCA license for a decade before its 2026 closure
  • Gave clients a clear wind down timeline instead of vanishing suddenly
  • Said client fund safety was prioritized over a risky ownership sale
  • Served a large global client base over its 16 years of operation

Cons

  • GMI Markets has fully shut down and cannot open new accounts
  • Its FCA permissions were formally cancelled on 5 February 2026
  • Any site still marketing GMI Markets as open should be treated as unsafe
  • Remaining clients must chase withdrawals through a wind down process
About GMI Markets

GMI Markets was a forex and CFD broker established in 2009, regulated by the UK FCA under license 677530 since 2015, and by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius under license C118023454. At its peak it said it served more than 1 million traders worldwide across gold, oil, silver, forex, indices, and stock CFDs.

In December 2025, GMI Markets announced a full closure. Management said it could not find a successor to lead the firm and cited health and retirement reasons, adding that interested buyers did not meet its standards for operational integrity. New deposits stopped on December 24, 2025, trading ended worldwide on December 31, 2025, and January 31, 2026 was the final deadline to request a withdrawal.

GMI Markets is not a broker you can open a new account with today. Its own site now shows only a closure notice, and the FCA confirms its permissions were cancelled on 5 February 2026. Contact its support address directly if you still hold funds there.
