flatex has run as a low cost brokerage brand since 2006, tracing back to a company once called FinTech Group. It now trades stocks, ETFs, funds, crypto, certificates, and CFDs from one account, reaching about 40 trading venues. Its parent, formerly flatexDEGIRO AG, became flatexDEGIRO SE in December 2025.
The bank behind flatex is flatexDEGIRO Bank SE in Frankfurt, the exact same bank that runs DEGIRO in Amsterdam. BaFin and the Bundesbank supervise it. On CFDs, flatex uses Societe Generale as market maker, with retail leverage capped near 1:30 depending on the instrument.
In February 2023 BaFin ordered flatexDEGIRO Bank to fix serious gaps in risk management and money laundering checks, and placed a special representative inside the bank to watch the fixes. Cash deposits stay protected up to 100,000 euros under the EdB scheme, and securities are held separately in custody.
