About Direct Broking

Direct Broking started as an independent online share trading pioneer in New Zealand, founded by Nigel Wynn. ANZ National Bank bought the business in 2006 for 5.1 million dollars. ANZ later sold Direct Broking to First NZ Capital Securities Limited in December 2018, and after more mergers that firm is now called Jarden Securities Limited.

The Direct Broking name is retired. Jarden renamed the platform Jarden Direct around 2023, then renamed it again to Invest Direct on 1 February 2025. Invest Direct now runs with Hatch, and trades NZ, Australian, US, and UK shares with no minimum deposit. Anyone searching for Direct Broking today should look for Invest Direct instead.

Jarden Securities Limited holds FMA license number FSP3202. In 2021, the FMA formally censured Jarden after it merged with OM Financial Limited, because OM Financial had mixed client money with its own money between 2015 and 2020. The FMA said no client actually lost money in that case.
