About City Index

City Index started in 1983 as one of the first UK spread betting firms. GAIN Capital bought it in 2014, then StoneX Group bought GAIN Capital itself in 2020. GAIN Capital UK Limited has since given up its FCA license, and City Index now trades under StoneX Financial Ltd, authorised by the FCA under reference 446717.

UK clients face no fixed minimum deposit, though City Index suggests around 100 GBP to meet margin needs, and spreads on EUR/USD start near 0.5 pips. Leverage follows FCA retail limits, up to 1:30 on major pairs, though non UK clients can access up to 1:500. Trading runs on a proprietary web platform, a mobile app, MetaTrader 4, and TradingView.

StoneX Financial Ltd is a member of the FSCS, covering UK clients up to 85,000 GBP if the firm fails. The move away from GAIN Capital UK is mostly a legal and regulatory change, City Index says account access and day to day trading did not change for existing clients. City Index does not serve residents of the United States.
