Poland's Financial Supervision Authority, the KNF, fined XTB 20 million zlotys—about $5.5 million—on 30 March 2026 over conduct between January 2022 and September 2023. XTB says the decision is not final and may appeal.

What Did the KNF Find?

The authority said XTB assessed suitability for complex CFDs using experience with simpler instruments, provided incomplete or misleading risk information and promoted a HOT list containing products with wider spreads and greater revenue potential for the broker. The KNF described the conduct as unreliable and unprofessional.

XTB's Response and Market Reaction

XTB said the registration form and onboarding process had already been changed. Its shares rose 0.7 percent the next day to a record 109.28 zlotys, valuing the business above 12 billion zlotys.

A fine the market treated as noise

A penalty worth roughly two percent of projected annual profit may register as a compliance cost rather than a deterrent. XTB is entitled to appeal, but investors' reaction shows how little the finding changed the market's view.
