The Australian Securities and Investments Commission cancelled Trive's Australian Financial Services License 424122 effective 1 July 2026. The CFD broker had held the authorization for 14 years under three names.

Why ASIC Cancelled Trive's License

The action followed ASIC's review of 52 licensed CFD issuers between October 2024 and December 2025. The regulator said the review identified serious deficiencies in some Trive processes. Trive had already agreed to stop onboarding new Australian clients in April 2025, and ASIC ultimately said the license was cancelled because the firm was no longer carrying on a financial-services business in Australia.

ASIC says its broader sector work has secured nearly A$40 million in refunds for more than 38,000 retail investors. Trive lodged an appeal with the Administrative Review Tribunal on 30 July 2026. The appeal means the decision remains contested; it does not itself reinstate the license.

Three Names and a Shift Offshore

The Australian business began as ILQ Australia, became Fairmarkets Trading in 2018 and adopted the Trive name after a merger with GKFX. The wider group has stepped back from the UK while expanding in South Africa and retaining licenses in Malta, Mauritius and the British Virgin Islands.

Independent monitoring lists 23 complaints against the wider brand, including allegations of frozen accounts, unauthorised deductions and a delayed $152,541.05 withdrawal. These are user allegations, not ASIC findings.

The appeal does not erase the cancellation

Australian traders should treat the AFS license as cancelled unless the tribunal changes that position. International clients must verify the specific entity named in their agreement.
