The platform that powers dozens of CFD brokers just gave AI the controls. Spotware released cTrader CLI in August 2026, a desktop command line application that lets traders, and the AI tools sitting on their machines, manage accounts without ever opening a chart. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and Gemini CLI can plug straight in to pull prices and history, manage orders and positions, set alerts and run cBots with their backtests.

The CLI is the second half of a project Spotware started in May, when it shipped cTrader AI Agent Connect, two MCP servers and a skills library it described as the first AI agent solution built directly into an FX and CFD platform. One server works remotely through cTrader Web and covers account operations, orders and market data. The other runs locally on Windows and goes further, controlling the workspace itself. Chief executive Ilia Iarovitcyn pitched it as “a reliable way to integrate AI agents securely into their trading workflows.”

What an AI Agent Can Actually Do Here

Spotware's own list is blunt: retrieve account data, prices and historical market data, review trading history and exposure, manage orders and positions, set price alerts, run cBots and backtests. The firm's head of product development said the tool gives advanced traders the freedom to use AI to run and automate their trading without a graphical interface. In practice, a retail trader can now tell a chatbot to watch a level, size a position and pull the trigger.

The Question Brokers Will Have to Answer

cTrader sits inside brokers like IC Markets, Pepperstone and Axi along with dozens of smaller brands, which means those firms just inherited clients whose orders may be written by software the broker has never seen. Best execution, suitability and responsibility for a fat fingered prompt are open questions, and no major regulator has published a position on retail AI order flow yet. The last time platforms handed retail traders a powerful new toy, copy trading, the rules arrived years after the losses. The sequence looks set to repeat.

Spotware Deserves Credit for Building the Plumbing Properly. Our Concern Is Everything Around the Plumbing.

Documented MCP servers and a CLI beat the grey market of trading bots that already exists. But an AI agent that can read exposure and fire orders is execution risk wearing a productivity costume, and neither brokers nor regulators have said who owns the damage when a prompt goes wrong.

Traders experimenting with this should start on a demo account and treat every automated order as their own. The convenience is real, and so is the blast radius.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cTrader CLI?

A standalone desktop command line application from Spotware that runs on the trader's own computer. It handles trading and order management, cBot execution, backtesting and optimisation, market and account data, price alerts and exposure review, all without the graphical interface.

Which AI tools can connect to cTrader?

Spotware names Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf and Gemini CLI, and any other agent that speaks MCP can use the two official servers, one remote through cTrader Web and one local on Windows.

Can an AI agent really place trades on cTrader?

Yes. Through the MCP servers and the CLI an agent can manage orders and positions, run cBots and set alerts. The trader remains responsible for every order the agent sends, so limits and demo testing matter.

Is AI trading on cTrader regulated?

The tools are platform features rather than regulated products. No major regulator has published rules for retail AI order flow so far, which leaves best execution and suitability obligations as the only guardrails. Compare cTrader brokers in our Best Forex Brokers in 2026 ranking.
